Updated as of October 3, 2022

During the 2022-2023 school year, we will continue to focus on strategies to support the safety, health, and well-being of our students and staff as we continue to navigate through the Covid-19 pandemic.

Earthroots Field School will follow the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) guidelines, as well as those of our local Orange County Health Care Agency (OCHCA).

Current recommendations include:

Monitoring of COVID symptoms

  • Students and staff will self-monitor COVID symptoms. Also, anyone who is feeling ill should stay home and take a COVID test.
  • Anyone who tests positive will report the positive results to the Earthroots administrative team ([email protected]) and stay home for 5 days.
    • Following day 5, any student or staff member may return to class once they test negative. It is recommended to wear a mask for a total of 10 days after testing positive.
    • Furthermore, any individual who continues to test positive may return to class 10 days after symptom onset or initially testing positive.

We do not require masks

Current CDPH guidance provides for optional masking for students and instructors while in class.

  • However, individuals who are more comfortable wearing masks are welcome to do so.

What Earthroots is continuing to do to reduce the risk of exposure and spread of COVID-19

·       We hold all classes outside.

·       Earthroots classes maintain a small class size, so most classes have 10 to 14 participants with 2 instructors.

·       Our staff will have soap and water on site, and also incorporate regular hand washing throughout the class session.

·       We recommend families bring their own food, water bottles and utensils.

·       Participants shall bring a bag for their own trash and take it with them when leaving an Earthroots program. Pack it in, pack it out.

·       Additionally, if we, as a part of a class or workshop, travel to a different location (field trip) that has a more stringent Covid-19 policy, we will honor the policy of that location/organization.

What Earthroots is doing to reduce the risk of exposure and spread of COVID-19

– We hold all classes outside.
– Earthroots classes maintain a small class size, so most classes have 10 to 14 participants with 2 instructors.
– Our staff will have soap and water on site, and will also incorporate regular hand washing throughout the class session.
– We recommend families bring their own food, water bottles and utensils and not share with others during class. We LOVE sharing food, but just not this season.
– Participants shall bring a bag for their own trash and take it with them when leaving an Earthroots program. Pack it in, pack it out.
– If we, as a part of a class or workshop, travel to a different location (field trip) that has a more stringent Covid-19 policy, we will honor the policy of that location/organization.

Following the current California Department of Public Health guidelines, face coverings are no longer required for staff and participants in outdoor programs. Individuals who are more comfortable wearing masks are welcome to do so. Those who are not vaccinated are encouraged to maintain a 6 foot distance from others. Furthermore, if you or anyone from your household is feeling ill or experiencing COVID symptoms, please stay home and rest.

How to limit the spread of COVID-19

Screen yourself for symptoms
People with COVID-19 have had a wide range of symptoms reported – ranging from mild symptoms to severe illness. Additionally, symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus. People with these symptoms may have COVID-19:

  • Fever or chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea

COVID-19 can cause more severe respiratory illness. If you have any of the emergency warning signs listed below, you should contact your medical provider immediately:

  • Trouble breathing
  • Persistent pain or pressure in the chest
  • New confusion
  • Bluish lips or face

When to Stay Home
If you have any of the symptoms listed above in the 48 hours before an Earthroots program, you will not be able to participate in the program. Please contact us if you are not able to attend. Furthermore, if you test positive or have come into contact with someone who has Covid-19, you will need to refrain from attending an Earthroots program for 14 days or as directed by your doctor.

Masks

Masks are optional outdoors. In the rare occasion that Earthroots does an indoor field trip, all staff will wear protective face masks while indoors. If staff need to adjust their masks, they will walk further than 6’ away from the group, make necessary adjustments and then return closer with it on.

Earthroots is working hard to ensure the safety of our staff and participants. Guidelines may change without notice.

What Earthroots is doing to reduce the risk of exposure and spread of COVID-19

We require the following precautions for all in-person Earthroots programs until further notice. When participating in an Earthroots Program, you agree to follow the guidelines outlined herein:

  • We will take the temperatures of each staff member and participant as they enter the facilities/property. If the temperature of participants or staff is 100.4 or higher, we will ask them to leave the premises.
  • Staff and participants over 2 years old will wear a mask at all times (except when eating or drinking). Earthroots may make exceptions for people with certain medical or psychological conditions. To be exempt from wearing a mask, your physician will need to sign the Authorized Healthcare Provider Request for Mask Exemption form. Please contact the office for more information.
  • There will be no sharing of food, utensils, cups, phones, devices, tools, or craft materials.
  • Earthroots will carefully wipe down all surfaces with soap and water, alcohol, or similar disinfectant after each class or after use by 10 persons, whichever is fewer. Participants may perform additional sanitation efforts at their discretion.
  • Physical distance (6 feet apart) at all times as much as possible. If an instructor perceives a more immediate risk, or case of emergency, physical distancing may be breached.

Only registered participants (and if necessary, an adult chaperone per individual class policy) may come on-site at any given time.
