Earthroots provides the skills and resources that kids and adults need to cultivate healthy relationships with nature, community, and themselves. These important relationships are needed now more than ever. Please give generously to ensure that our community continues to receive everything they need from Earthroots to stay healthy and resilient during these challenging times.
Earthroots Field School has lost much this year, and we have a vision to build it back. Although our weekly classes are on hold, we have potential to reach magnitudes more youth than before. We cannot do it without you.
During the past seven months, Earthroots has stepped deeper into our mission as a way to maneuver through the obstacles of the pandemic, civil unrest and isolation. As an outdoor school, moving indoors was jarring. The call rang loudly to stay true to our mission and continue to cultivate a sense of care and connection between people and the natural world, even when we couldn’t be together in person.
Keeping nature connection at the heart of our offerings, Earthroots instructors taught online classes and summer camps for families and children. These online programs were complete with mailed kits to create mini earthen houses, herbal first aid items, yucca paintbrushes, plant-based tie-dye and more. Other staff wrote curriculum from home to support the kits, and yet others created videos and researched shipping rates for plants to get them into the hands of our students. I am grateful for how each of our staff gave of themselves and to our larger community. As the world slowed down, we took the opportunity to reimagine how Earthroots could help people get through today’s challenges.
We need the Earthroots community to stand together stronger than ever.
Your gift today will ensure we make it through this incredible transition.
Our programs, both in person and now distanced, support the necessary work of developing inner strength, creating beauty with our hands and learning from the natural cycles unfolding all around us. This year, we are asking for 100% participation from you, our community, to fund Earthroots Field School. Receiving your gift of any amount would let us know that we are standing together at this critical time.
Spending time in nature increases self esteem and resilience against stress and adversity, improves concentration, learning, creativity, cognitive development, cooperation, flexibility and self-awareness, increases physical activity, preventing childhood obesity and creates environmentally aware adults working to protect the Earth’s resources and the balance between humans and nature. We all need this about now, right? It’s the perfect antidote to the isolated, screen-bound reality so many of us are experiencing.
There is so much uncertainty in this moment, globally and close to home. Thankfully, nature connection is a tool we can all lean on during these unprecedented times. Not yet able to return to our weekly outdoor programs, Earthroots has been mailing hand-crafted nature kits to families near and far, as well as to our local partner school. The boxes have everything you need to learn a new skill, deepen your connection with nature and spend more time outside. During the distance learning summer camps, a local grandma was inspired to bird watch with her grandchild, a Florida middle schooler transformed wild yucca into a paintbrush, and a family boiled avocado peels in their backyard to make natural tie dye. Nature connection is a powerful tool that can happen anywhere. And Earthroots is empowering more people to connect with nature where they are.
Earthroots is steadfast in our commitment to providing scholarships to Black, Indigeous and People of Color (BIPOC) participants, and those with financial need, even in this time when every dollar counts more than ever. Nature is for Everyone, and your gift allows us to continue to bring youth of all backgrounds and abilities outdoors and reconnect them with the living world.
Please give what you can. Your donation of any amount is a blessing to the Earth, to the current generation, and to those who are yet to come. If you are not in a position to give financially this year, please consider sharing this appeal to help us reach those who can.
With gratitude,
Jodi Levine-Wright
P.S. Your gift of any amount demonstrates your commitment to one of our core values: Nature is for Everyone. Whether $5, $50, $500 or $5,000, I invite you to make a financial gift to Earthroots today to help us meet our goal of 100% participation.
