Forest Kindergarten Summer Camp

Who: Children ages 3-6, attending with a parent or caregiver
When: June 4, 6, 11, 13 | 9:00-1:00pm

In Forest Kindergarten, nature is the teacher. Earthroots instructors are skilled mentors who guide children into deep, meaningful, outdoor play, while providing hands-on, inquiry based explorations in nature. This summer version of Forest Kindergarten will have the same components of our regular Forest Kindergarten program.

Fairy Quest Camp

Who: Children ages 5-10, Drop off ok for ages 7 and up
When: June 17 | 10:00-2:00pm

Once upon a time there was a Fairy named Lyra who landed at Big Oak Canyon. Out of love for this magical place, Lyra created a special day camp for children of all ages to enjoy. According to the wishes of the Big Oak Canyon Fairy, we’ll start the day off with a treasure hunt, exploring the land and following Lyra’s path through this enchanted setting. We’ll learn the history of Big Oak Canyon and observe the mystical wonders of the nature surrounding us, including fantastical creatures. We’ll gather precious nature treasures at each stop along our fairy route and create a spellbinding backpack charm to take home as a reminder of the magical splendor of Big Oak Canyon. We will end the day knowing we have made the Big Oak Canyon Fairy so happy!

Ancestral Skills Camp

Who: Children ages 8-14
When: June 18, 19, 20, & 21 | 9:00-2:00 pm

Join us for this 4-day camp to learn many of the ancestral skills and practices people have used for thousands of years. Enjoy the beauty of Big Oak Canyon while engaging in fun activities like animal tracking, shelter building, bird language and cordage making, caring for the Earth and harvesting her abundance with gratitude.

Forest Theater Camp

Who: Children ages 5-14
When: June 25 | 10:00-2:00 pm

Calling all theater and nature-lovers! Join Earthroots instructor Angela Capps for a fun filled day of Forest Theatre Camp! Angela brings her passion for acting and professional training and experience in theater, improv, and music. Children are invited to spend the day in the unspoiled beauty of Big Oak Canyon. It’s the perfect backdrop for our Forest Theatre Camp, and includes 200+ year old oak trees, diverse native flora, flowing creeks and ample intact ecosystems, for children to observe and explore.

Women & Wild Plants

Who: Women ages 16 and up
When
Session 1: June 9 | 9:00-12:00 pm 
Session 2: June 22 | 9:00-12:00 pm

Join Earthroots instructors Macy and Angela on a wild plant walk in Big Oak Canyon! This land is home to 200+ year old oak trees and diverse, native flora, and is the ideal setting to learn about local native plants. During the class, instructors will guide participants in identifying and distinguishing between edible, medicinal, and poisonous plants and explain how they can be used in daily living.

Dancing with Nature

Who: Ages 12 and up (Adults are welcome)
When: June 15 | 10:00-1:00 pm

Participants will learn contemporary dance techniques with structured movements inspired by movements within the living ecosystems of Big Oak Canyon. This class will help remind us that the body is a part of nature, not just in nature. Through journaling, nature walks, and creative expression, instructors will guide participants toward pure intuitive and energy exchange with their surroundings. Percussion, wind, or string music will also help inspire rhythms. This class will focus on exploring the space in and out of the body, and the nature of all its connected movement.
