Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator (3-5 hours/week)

Position Summary:
We are seeking a Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator to develop and sustain relationships with individuals, corporations, and service groups who wish to give their time and energy in support of Earthroots’ mission. This role will also play a key part in corporate outreach and fundraising efforts to expand Earthroots’ network of support. A working knowledge and experience in ecological land management is preferred, along with a background in outreach, event coordination, and fundraising.

The Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator will be responsible for expanding Earthroots’ volunteer program, securing corporate sponsorships for volunteer events, and contributing to fundraising efforts that support our programs. The ability to clearly articulate Earthroots’ mission and impact to diverse audiences is essential for this role.

Job Details:

  • Hybrid Position
    • In-person location: Silverado Canyon, CA (1 or more days per month) 
    • Remote: Work from home for remaining hours
  • Application Deadline: March 18, 2025
  • Start Date: Early April
  • Hours: Part-time, remote/hybrid, contracted position, approximately 3-5 hours per week
  • Reports to: Operations Manager
  • Compensation: Starting at $18-22/hr depending on experience, with a review after 90 days

Responsibilities:

  • Volunteer Coordination
    • Plan, promote, coordinate and lead volunteer events, ensuring an enriching experience for participants.
    • Work with Earthroots staff to identify projects that need volunteer support (ecological field projects, events, educational programs, and fundraising).
    • Collaborate with the Lead Land Steward to ensure all necessary materials, tools, and equipment are prepared prior to volunteer events. 
    • Manage volunteer sign-ups and communications, including pre-event welcome emails, waivers, and post-event surveys.
    • Maintain accurate records of volunteer registration, attendance, and impact.
    • Post scheduled volunteer days on Eventbrite and other relevant platforms.
    • Take photos/videos during volunteer events. 
    • Work with the Social Media Manager to promote volunteer opportunities and share event highlights. 
    • Identify and engage new volunteer networks and platforms to expand Earthroots’ reach.
    • Assist in grant applications related to volunteer engagement and retention.
  • Corporate Outreach & Fundraising
    • Identify and engage with businesses, service organizations, and community groups to cultivate long-term partnerships.
    • Develop and manage relationships with corporate partners interested in volunteerism, sponsorships, and charitable giving.
    • Coordinate corporate volunteer events, ensuring they align with Earthroots’ mission and goals.
    • Collaborate with the Executive Director to create sponsorship opportunities and secure financial contributions.
    • Provide content for proposals, reports, and donor outreach materials.
    • Track corporate sponsorships and donations, ensuring timely follow-ups and acknowledgments.

  • Eventbrite & Volunteer Management Platforms (VolunteerMatch,org, Lion’s Heart, OneOC, etc.)
  • Social Media (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn)
  • CRM, Donor Management Software 

Qualifications:

  • Residence in Orange County, California 
  • At least 1 year of experience in volunteer coordination, group facilitation, outreach, fundraising, event planning or a related field.
  • Background in ecology, gardening, education, or nature connection is required. 
  • Physical requirements of this position:
    • Comfortably lifting up to 50 lbs
    • Using hand tools including but not limited to hand saws, pruning shears, and loppers (training is available)
    • Walking on uneven surfaces and trails
    • Standing for extended periods of time
    • Working in outdoor conditions, year round)
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work independently.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with the confidence and ability to engage a wide range of audiences.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Passion for environmental education, land stewardship, and community engagement.
  • Experience with corporate outreach and fundraising preferred.
